Our downtown district is truly a unique place that should be treasured. It was voted as “The Best Downtown” in the NWI best of series for 2009, 2010 and 2011. I believe that to ensure that our downtown remains a vital commercial and tourist destination we must be strong in several areas.
- Since 2008, we have created and hosted several new special events such as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Ocktoberfest, LPGA Futures' Tour Southshore Championship, Winter Market, Festival of Lights, City Wide Picnic, and the N.S.A. World Series, which have brought tens of thousands of people to our square from around the region and the country. In 2011, we were officially awarded to be recognized in "Today in America". The City of Crown Point will be recognized as one of four regions featured on the TV series hosted by pro football hall of fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw. The city will be highlighted on the "Hidden Gems: Great Places to Live, Work and Play" episode.
- Since 2008 we have formed a strong relationship with the Chamber of Commerce as well as the Lake County Courthouse Foundation, the Old Homestead Foundation, and the Old Sheriff’s House and Jail Foundation. We assist these organizations with Public Awareness campaigns and assist with donations wherever possible. These relationships allow the city to anticipate and react to the needs of the businesses and the organizations responsible for keeping our square the jewel that she is.
- We have additional manpower through the Police Department and the Public Works department working hard every day to achieve that goal.
